Our local newspaper is completely out of control. They just published an awful story last Friday about the administrator of the Girls' School leaving. They are trying to make a controversy where there is none.

Here is my letter to the editor:

Dear Editor:

I was extremely disappointed to see last Friday's inappropriate article regarding the resignation of the Girls' School superintendent.

Using a single questionable source for the basis of the article defies all of the basic tenants of Journalism 101. It was amateur and shoddy journalism.

We are about to get a new governor and at-will employees will be leaving state agencies. To imply that Fairbanks resignation is tied into some scandal or problem is ludicrous.

Do you really want to start printing stories from every former employee from an agency or business in town who wants to complain about their previous boss?

Perhaps if the newspaper had took more time to speak to Mr. Fairbanks or his boss in Cheyenne, the article could have at least represented both viewpoints.

The Sheridan Press might think it is doing some great community service by publishing this story or others about treatment centers or a politician having problems making his mortgage payments.

However, all you are doing is trying to invent a controversy where none exists. Your job is to report the news, not to exaggerate or even invent it.

Many people in this community are sick and tired of our newspaper behaving more like a tabloid then a reputable daily. We want actual real news, not unsubstantiated rumor-mongering.

Over recent years, The Sheridan Press has disintegrated into a small shell of the newspaper it used to be. Why is that?
